Three Questions

Address books are fine when you relate to the classified person or business by name, but you don’t always. Unnamed “dentist” and “hair stylist,” etc. At least in the beginning when you’re not sure the provider is a keeper.

As for the phone directory for cell phones, I suppose it’s coming–but don’t you think most people don’t want it? Until telecom companies change their business model so that the recipient of the call doesn’t pay for it, most would just as soon not get charged to hear from a telemarketer, sales person, or friend-aspirant.

The old default, where you got shoved into a directory by Ma Bell and had to work or pay to get out of it, probably never should have been put into place, but it was much more tolerable when it linked to a permanent fixture inside a home. Today’s cell phone is more than a phone. It’s almost like a body part. I think directories should back the hell off unless people want their numbers to be in them.

On II: You don’t have to, but it’s a good idea to go ahead, redundancy be damned. Especially if you worry! I save people’s addresses that way. When you have a wad of Word documents in your computer and you wonder something like where can I find the local distributor of my home gym equipment, you can type Precor or whatever in the search box. Works for me.

Good point, then you might as well put it in an address book. But your way is more my style–is it more efficient than putting an address into an address book on the computer or elsewhere? I would never have the patience to do that. I Google to find addresses, phone numbers, etc.
